In an attempt to deal honestly with the passage from adolescence to young adulthood, Williamson has created a drama that deals with teens and sex as no other series has done before. Sure to be the center of some controversy, "Dawson's Creek" brings to life the turmoil and passion of a time in everyone's life when no one really knows what to do. The drama is set in a picture-postcard Boston suburb, just off the ocean, and features a remarkable ensemble cast that includes JAMES VAN DER BEEK ('I Love You, I Love You Not'), KATIE HOLMES ('The Ice Storm'), JOSHUA JACKSON ('The Mighty Ducks') and MICHELLE WILLIAMS ('A Thousand Acres'). Van Der Beek portrays Dawson Leery, a 15 year-old STEVEN SPIELBERG fanatic. His two best friends are Joey Potter (Holmes) a tomboy with a less-than-functional home life, and Pacey Witter (Jackson), a sarcastic, over-confident type who stumbles headlong into adult situations long before he's ready for them. Dawson's new next-door neighbor, Jennifer Lindley (Williams), suddenly brings a new element into these old friends' long-standing dynamics. Dawson finds himself obsessed with this mysterious new beauty - while Joey, coming out of her tomboy phase, is suddenly forced to deal with her feelings for Dawson. Together, the foursome learn that growing up is never as easy as it seems in the movies. Blindly testing the waters of adulthood, these four teens must shed their childlike innocence and endure the compromise of morality that accompanies so-called maturity. Viewers will be able to see them grow and adapt over the coming weeks as they deal with friendship, jealousy, family, school, love, and - yes - sex. Filmed on location in Wilmington, N.C., "Dawson's Creek" was created by Kevin Williamson, who also serves as executive producer, along with PAUL STUPIN ("My Wildest Dreams") and CHARLES ROSIN ("Beverly Hills 90210").
